As part of one of the groups that toured the South Side of Ellis Island during October’s OHNY, I was excited, thrilled, overjoyed, or what have you, to be able to take pictures. Mind you, this was my first trip to Ellis Island since I’d come to New York back in January 1995. Long overdue? Yes! Walking those halls made me aware of how many lives had passed through them, making it, or not, to New York, and making way for you and I to have a life here. Who knows which neighbor of yours might had an ancestor pass through Ellis Island.
